Women of the community who have learnt the trade from their moms and grandmothers hand loom these fabrics.
Among the biggest providers of abel in Abra is Leila’s Loom weaving.
To view how abel is handmade by the local weavers, go to their workshop at Brgy.
Bulbulala. Usually, they have completed goods in stock if you want to buy.
From Bangued market, catch a ride the jeepney to La Paz. Deliver at the Brgy. Bulbulala crossroads. Leila’s Loomweaving is a little tricycle trip from there.

Don Mariano Marcos Bridge

The third longest bridge in the Philippines, the Don Mariano Marcos Bridge, spans the powerful Abra River.
Stop over for breathtaking mountainscape and riverfront vistas.
The Don Mariano Marcos Bridge is situated between the villages of Dolores and Tayum on the Abra—Kalinga Road. You will travel via it on your route to Tineg.

Tayum Church & Heritage Houses

The most magnificent Spanish-colonial church in Abra is Santa Catalina de Alejandria Parish Church, located in the town proper of Tayum.
This 19th-century Baroque church has been declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines. Close by are other remaining ancestral dwellings built in Bahay Na Bato architecture.
Tayum lies beside Bangued. By car or tricycle, reaching there takes ten to twenty minutes.

GourHats in San Quintin

Another revered craftsman from Abra is Teofilo Garcia, a National Living Treasure Awardee who specialises in creating traditional hats made from gourds (upo) or kattokong nga tabun gaw.
Mostly constructed from natural gourds he plants and gathers personally, the all-weather headgear is. While the top portion is applied with brilliant orange or red varnish to provide weather protection, the innards are hollowed out, dried, and lined with finely woven rattan matting.
The only person remaining in his village who still creates rather quirky-looking works is Mr. Garcia. Right now, he is contacting young individuals in his community who want to learn the skill.
Visitors are welcome to his studio and purchase a hat to help keep the ancient tabun gaw-making alive and vibrant. Teofilo Garcia’s workshop is situated in San Quintin.
It’s found along the main road connecting Bangued to Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. Walk or drive up the little hillside road from San Quintin’s highway junction. A few hundred meters ahead sits the workshop.

Gabriel Silang Gallery of Fine Arts

The former Gabriela Silang headquarters in Tayum is also worth a visit. Renowned as the Joan of Arc of Ilocania, she was the first female leader of a Filipino movement seeking freedom from Spain.
The Gabriel Silang Gallery of Fine Arts, which comprises the collections of retired Philippine Ambassador Rosario V. Carino, is a private museum within the estate run by the Cariño family.
This exhibition abounds with paintings, sculptures, furniture, relics, documents, and literature from all over the globe that the former ambassador acquired throughout his working life.
Along with paintings created by the former ambassador personally, the collection’s valuable items include works by Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo, Pablo Picasso, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Domenico Ghirlandaioto.
Along Teodoro Balmaceda Street in Poblacion, Tayum, sits Gabriel Silang Gallery of Fine Arts. The Tayum Church is not far away by walk.

Kaparkan Falls

Tineg, in the province of Abra in the Philippines, has a natural wonder called Kaparkan Falls. This waterfall falls over rocks and is surrounded by tall trees and lots of grass. It’s a beautiful place to visit.

Bangued

One’s journey to Abra Holidays begins in Bangued, the provincial capital.
To gain a bird’s eye perspective of Abra’s plains, powerful rivers, and mountain tops, visit Victoria Park’s view deck located at Cassamata Hill National Park Town boasts a few historical sites, including the San Lorenzo Ruiz Shrine (cemetery chapel) and the Cathedral of Saint James the Greater (Bangued Church).
A direct bus from Manila to Bangued is available. Travel time is around eight hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Ilocos Norte via Narvacan.
A trip from Narvacan takes 45 minutes to one hour. In the meantime, travel time from Vigan takes about two hours.

Piwek Rock Formations

One finds this natural splendour farther down the road from Apao Rolling Hills.
Here, the highlights are shining white limestone rock formations that encircle the Tineg River banks.
From Brgy. Alaoa in Tineg, a native guide can take you across the river on a bamboo raft to Piwek Rock Formations. You can choose from two trails.
The more difficult yet thrilling approach calls for some rock climbing across big boulders. The less steep climb is the easier one.
