Seasons to travel

In the Philippines, the best time to visit Coron is during the summer, which lasts from March to May.
You can look forward to lots of sunshine, clear skies, and calm seas during these months.
If you’d rather have a little cooler weather, you can also plan your trip for the dry season, which starts in December.
As you transition from December to February, the weather becomes slightly warmer, but you will still experience occasional rainfall.

Calauit Safari Park

Off Palawan’s shore, Calauit Island’s 3,700-hectare safari park protects wildlife.
The purported translocation habitat trial between Kenyan President Jomo Kenyatta and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos involves African giraffes and zebras. A refuge was established on August 31, 1976.
The conservation institution, formerly known as the Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, currently houses severely endangered Palawan Calamianes species.
The Calamian wolf, pheasant peacock, Balabac mouse-deer, and native bearcat have coexisted with over 100 African giraffe, eland, zebra, impala, bushbuck, gazelle, and waterbuck species in the refuge since the 1980s.
Only two African and six endangered species are known to exist. The reticulated giraffe, also known as the Somali giraffe, and Grévy’s zebra, the largest zebra population, migrate.
Only 25 Calamian deer were introduced here, but now the refuge has 1,200–1,300—its biggest achievement.
Palawan’s four endangered wild pig species include the bearded pig. Filipino porcupine and Binturong are here.
All are endangered on Threatened Wildlife’s Philippine Red List. Also highly endangered is the freshwater Philippine crocodile. Only four adults exist, but breeding is continuing.

Dive sites

Busuanga has diverse dive locations. Both wreck enthusiasts exploring WWII Japanese shipwrecks and coral admirers enjoying the variety of fish species benefit from the dive locations’ richness.
Busuanga’s best wreck dive is the Black Island Wreck east of Malajon Island. Its 65-foot average depth and 104-foot maximum depth might amaze divers.
Concepcion Wreck or Taiei Maru south of Concepcion Village in Busuanga. This coral-covered ship wreck, 2.5 hours from Concepcion, has good reefs at 52 feet and 85 feet. Coral reefs are a wonder for even experienced divers and are home to a diverse array of fish species.
Palawan’s Olympia Maru wreck is between Lusong and Tangat Islands. The Japanese cargo sunk in 1944 at the end of the Japanese War is marked by stunning Palawan coral reefs with scorpionfish and other dangerous water critters.
